Stan Morris, the executive director of MMYA, fully understands the importance of matching our young people with professional and caring mentors in our community. He believes encouragment and empowerment gives hope to the hopeless.
He shares his mission with the Kiwanis, Rotary, Civic Clubs, and business community partners alike. He serves on the board of Learning for Life, where he is used as a premier motivational speaker in Orange County Public Schools. He also sits in board meetings for the Juvenile Justice Council. Currently and for the past three years, two nights out of the week, Stan empowers young men at the Juvenile Detention Center in understanding their choices and the consequences. He is a certified mentor for the Orange County Public School System and in the past, received an Honorary Teach-In Award.
Cassandra Morris, the administrative assistant for MMYA, is a Certified Girls Clubs Counselor and has coordinated Girls Clubs for over 15 years. She has been recognized as a State Girls Clubs District Coordinator and Counselor of the Year for several years and is a Licensed Minister of Christian Education. She received her undergraduate degree in Spanish and French from Bethune-Cookman University, graduating summa cum laude.
MMYA believes that youth who are performing poorly in academics and live in high crime areas, oftentimes lack having a strong Christian role model in their lives. It is imperative that alternative educational activities are provided for these youth who are struggling to survive in the school system. Many of them drop out of school because they feel their situation is hopeless and no one cares.
MMYA cares and is equipped and ready to seek out those who are willing to help these youth by recruiting caring adults who will serve as positive role models and be committed to developing an effective mentoring relationship.
